Raquel Keledjian received her doctorate in chemistry, with emphasis on design and synthesis of anti-inflammatory drugs, from the University of Southern California in 2003. After completing her degree Raquel began her career at a Bio-tech company, Biocatalytics where she focused on synthesizing drug precursors for pharmaceutical companies using biological enzymes rather than traditional harsh chemical pathways.
In addition to her synthetic work, she focused on analytical method development in order to support the combinatorial chemistry that was required to fish out biological enzymes that would work on chemical molecules. In a few short years, she was developing all the analytical assays for the company. Unfortunately after Codexis purchased Biocatalytics, the company was closed down. As a result, Raquel went to work for PPG, Aerospace division, where she was responsible for designing, synthesizing, and analyzing polymeric precursors that were to be used in the adhesives both for commercial and military aircrafts.
In summer of 2014, Raquel had the opportunity to join Dr. Jeff Raber at The Werc Shop, running the analytical lab, as The Werc Shop expanded their excellent scientific capabilities to aid other arenas of the cannabis industry. In September of 2015 Governor Jerry Brown signed the Medical Marijuana Bill, finally bringing much needed legislation to the medical cannabis industry.
The State of California was the first state to legalize medical cannabis when voters cast their ballots in favor of Prop 215 in 1996. With the new laws, clearly stated in AB 266, all cannabis testing labs had to be separate from all other medical cannabis industries. As a result, with the help of the City of Monrovia, and several attorneys, Raquel was able to establish the first cannabis testing lab, pH Solutions that was fully backed and endorsed by the City. Raquel is she owner and director of the lab that offers various testing services of natural botanical products not just limited to cannabis plants. The lab is preparing to become certified in ISO 17025 as stipulated by the bill.
