Geneviéve Jones-Wright is a candidate for District Attorney of San Diego County. She believes that Proposition 64--which legalizes recreational marijuana sales and allows local governments to legalize the cultivation, manufacturing, and testing of marijuana--is the will of the people and should be respected. Jones-Wright recognizes the importance of elected officials coming together with industry and business leaders to understand the complexities and benefits of the cannabis industry. She believes that San Diego and other regions have a unique opportunity to increase tourism, job opportunities, and revenue by becoming cannabis-friendly while ensuring marijuana products are safe.
Jones-Wright knows that failed policies like the “war on drugs” result in the over criminalization of our communities. The Trump administration, through Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has signaled a return to those failed policies that hurt our communities and cost taxpayer money. San Diego County can do better. If elected, Jones-Wright will change how the DA’s office handles the prosecution of certain crimes and individuals. The DA needs to prioritize violent and nonviolent offenses differently to fight mass incarceration and save taxpayer resources. There are serious crimes that need our attention.
